There have been contacts for some time between CERN and individual expatriate Palestinian scientists, including a theorist from Birzeit University in the Palestinian West Bank. One of the first participants in the ICTP LHC programme was a Palestinian student who is now working on a PhD within the ATLAS collaboration.
Palestinian students have participated in the CERN summer programme in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
