Oman started its scientific collaboration with CERN in 2015 when the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), under the leadership of Professor Amr Radi, became an active member of the CMS experiment. Today, SQU is a cooperative member of the CMS experiment with 18 participants (students and 3 senior physicists). In the near future SQU seeks to become a full member of CMS. The main contributions to CMS are on the Muon detectors and in data analysis on searches for new physics phenomena. Recently, during the Oman Sciences Festival, CERN was present via an exhibition on the CMS experiment and a keynote talk on Science, Art and Education during the opening ceremony.
The next step in future relations between CERN and Oman is to go for an ICA (International Cooperation Agreement).
