Junior Science Writer

Do you want to contribute to communicating the activities and achievements of the largest particle physics laboratory in the world to a global audience?

Join the writing team of the Editorial Content Production (ECP) section in the Education, Communications and Outreach (ECO) group in the International Relations (IR) sector!

 The section produces the written and audiovisual content for CERN's main communication channels (website, brochures, media kits) and designs graphics for all communication activities.

Functions:

  • Manage editorial requests and pitch news stories for the general public.
  • Write, edit and post new stories.
  • Contribute to video productions by writing and editing scripts and subtitles.
  • Liaise with the translation service, social media, internal communications, media, and web teams.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who would like to build their portfolio in science communication/journalism.

Required skills and background:

  • Excellent English writing and editing skills
  • Previous experience in creating written journalistic content
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Experience in web publishing and/or video production would be an asset
  • Knowledge of French would be an asset

The candidate could have Social Sciences, STEM or Administration studies background.

This vacancy is within the Technical or the Administrative Student Programme at CERN, within which students can spend a training period of 2 to 12 months during their studies (Bachelor or Master).

This is a 6-month position and an extension of up to a maximum of 14 months may be given. 

The expected start date is 1 July 2024.

You must be enrolled in full-time studies for the duration of the studentship.
