The Council Secretariat in the Stakeholder Relations sector is responsible for organising meetings of the CERN Council and its subsidiary bodies throughout the year. It plays a key role in ensuring the efficient functioning of CERN’s governance, working closely with internal services and external stakeholders at all levels.
As a Junior Administrative Assistant, you will contribute to a wide range of administrative and organisational activities, supporting high-level meetings and ensuring the smooth coordination of processes and documentation.
You will also collaborate closely with the Translation and Minutes Service, providing back-up support when required.
In this role, you will gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, international, and multicultural environment at the heart of CERN’s decision-making processes.
Key Tasks
As a Junior Administrative Assistant and under the supervision of the Council Liaison Officer, you will:
- Provide a wide range of administrative support within the Council Secretariat.
- Contribute to the coordination and organisation of meetings of the CERN Council, its subordinate and advisory bodies, and working groups.
- Liaise courteously and efficiently with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Assist in the preparation, handling and distribution of official documents.
- Provide administrative support to the President of the Council and Chairs of various committees.
- Ensure continuity of service by providing back-up support for the administrative assistant of the Translation and Minutes Service when required.
Skills
- MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to understand and speak English in a professional context and to draft standard texts in English.
- Ability to understand and speak French in everyday situations.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a courteous and professional approach.
Experience
- Experience providing administrative support in English will be an advantage.
- Experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders and/or clients would be an asset.
Language skills
Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
Eligibility
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in the field of Administration, Languages or a related discipline and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma or a shorter non-university degree.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants with University degree are not eligible.
