Would you like to work at the world’s leading particle-physics laboratory, communicating the latest developments in high-energy physics to a global audience?

CERN has an opening in the Content section of its Education, Communications and Outreach (ECO) group, within the Stakeholder Relations (SR) sector, to join the editorial team of CERN Courier – the international magazine for high-energy physics, established in 1959.

CERN Courier exists to serve the international community working in particle physics and adjacent fields by providing rigorous, accessible and impactful reporting on the latest developments in science, technology and policy.

Activities:

Reporting to the CERN Courier editor, you will contribute to the magazine's print and digital editions, showcasing developments in international high-energy physics. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a strong interest in science writing who wants to build their portfolio in science communication and journalism.  

As a member of CERN’s Courier editorial team, your tasks will include:

  • Liaising with the CERN and global high-energy physics communities to gather and help produce editorial material;
  • Interviewing, fact checking, researching ideas and pictures;
  • Keeping up-to-date the data in the subscriber and distribution databases.

In addition to developing organisational, communication and editorial skills in an international research laboratory, the successful candidate will gain increased knowledge about high-energy physics, technology and international collaboration in a unique multicultural environment.

Eligibility criteria:

Essential skills and experience:

  • An ongoing bachelor’s or master’s degree in physics or a closely related field or social and communication sciences;
  • Previous experience in writing/editing/publishing would be an asset;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines;
  • Ability to respond positively to feedback;
  • An excellent command of English.

This vacancy is within the Technical or the Administrative Student Programme at CERN, within which students can spend a training period during their studies (bachelor’s or master’s degree). This is a 12-month student position, which may be extended up to a maximum of 14 months.

The targeted start date of the placement is 1 January 2027.
