Bolivia operates a cosmic-ray observatory at Mount Chacaltaya, with participation by Italy and Japan, and also participates in the Auger cosmic-ray experiment.

Through contacts with a Bolivian expatriate physicist working in Torino (Italy), a first student has started working there on the ALICE experiment, and more are expected to follow.

In 2007 an ICA was signed with the Government of the Republic of Bolivia concerning Scientific and Technical Cooperation in HEP.

Currently, physicists from "Universidad Mayor de San Andres" (UMSA) and from "Instituto de Investigaciones Fisicas" (IIF) are exploring the possibility of participating in some of the CERN experiments, namely in AEGIS and in ALICE.
