Oman

Oman started its scientific collaboration with CERN in 2015 when the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) became an active member of the CMS experiment. Today, SQU is a cooperative member of the CMS experiment with 18 participants (students and three senior physicists). In the near future SQU seeks to become a full member of CMS. The main contributions to CMS are in the muon detectors and in data analysis on searches for new physics phenomena. Recently, during the Oman Sciences Festival, CERN was present via an exhibition on the CMS experiment and a keynote talk on Science, Art and Education during the opening ceremony. In the summer of 2018, the first student from Oman was enrolled in the CERN Summer Student Programme and teamed up with a Lebanese student working on a robot for the CMS experimental cavern.

The next step in future relations between CERN and Oman is to conclude an International Cooperation Agreement (ICA).
