Thailand

Deliberations with Thailand have indicated a great potential to collaborate with CERN in high-energy physics and related technologies. The support in Thailand at the level of her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the Minister of Science and Technology, the National Science and Technology Development Agency, the Synchrotron Light Research Institute, the Universities and funding agencies is very strong.

Groups from Thailand are members of the ALICE and CMS collaborations. For ALICE, Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) is a Member since October 2012, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Bangkok, is an Associate Member since October 2014, the Thai Microelectronics Center (TMEC), Chachoengsao, is an Associate Member since October 2014 and Synchrotron Light Research Institute (SLRI) is an Associate Member since July 2016. Chulalongkorn University (CU) is Member of since July 2012. There is also an active collaboration with the Synchrotron Light Research Institute (Public Organization, SLRI) and National Electronics and Computer Center (NECTEC) for both ALICE and CMS.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed with WLCG in October 2013, providing computing infrastructure for a Tier-2 ALICE (SUT) and Tier-2 CMS (NECTEC-CU).

The participation of students and teachers from Thailand in CERN’s Summer Student and High School Teacher programmes is organised every year.

CERN and Thailand signed an International Cooperation Agreement (ICA) in 2018.
